I finally managed to get a picture of our “new” garden bird. It has been in our area for nearly six months. I initially thought I had a brown headed parrot in the garden, based on call and silhouette, until I saw the orange vest, indicating it was a close relative, the Senegal parrot. I can only presume it is an escaped bird, but I am amazed at how long it has survived in the neighbourhood, feeding on all manner of exotic and indigenous fruit and berries. Release few more, and we can start a breeding population in JHB <!-- s:duck: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/duck.gif" alt=":duck:" title="Fear" /><!-- s:duck: -->

Hi there! I spotted a pair of "brown-headed parrots" in my pecan tree in Jukskei Park, Johannesburg. I couldn't get a photo so I can't confirm for sure. It is also possible that there are a pair of Senegal parrots that are living and breeding in Johannesburg. Pretty exciting! Hopefully they will return one day and I can confirm either way. Thanks for your post, it was good to know I wasn't crazy!
