I recently went on a day trip to Suikerbosrand. we came across what was definitely a lark, which had all the characteristic's of a Botha's, including the whitish underparts, ruling out our first thoughts of a Pink-billed lark. The only problem was the habitat and possibly the range. We found the lark in fairly long grass with quite a few rocks as well, and apparently Botha's larks avoid rocky areas and prefer short heavily grazed grassland. I'm also not so sure about the range. The maps I've seen appear to show that Suikerbosrand is within Botha's lark's range, but I still have doubts.

Has anybody seen a Botha's lark at Suikerbosrand before, and can you comment on the habitat?

Doug replied the topic:
I would be rather sceptical of Botha's lark in that habitat and I do not know of any sightings in that area. That having been said, birds have wings. A photo woud have helped.

Lets wait and see what others say.

Cheers.
