What type of bird is this, I'm guessing it's some sort of hornbill.

Tough call but if it had a long bill and you put it in the Hornbill group, I think there is some discernible evidence that your pic is of an African Grey Hornbill - possibly a male.

Just wondering, completely different topic here. Are cape vultures hard to see in the Kruger? And the grey hornbill?

I would say that the Grey Hornbill is less often seen in the Kruger than the Southern Red-billed or the Southern Yellow-billed (which is the most common) but none of the three are exactly uncommon. Uncommon in the Kruger would be Crowned (the day visitors' area at Skukuza is a good bet) and the Trumpeter Hornbill.

As for Cape Vultures - yes, very unusual in the Kruger.I have a photo of one near the Middelvlei waterhole north of Letaba some 10 years ago, but in 30 years of visiting the Park that is my only definite sighting.
