have posted this on facebook as well,however hoping you can get a better look on this site.both the black crowned and green back heron juveniles have greenish, yellow legs, i am sure this is a black crowned night heron, just the black legs catching me.Pic taken at rondebult this morning,lots of adult black crowned around in fact we counted over 11 individual adults.

Hi warren

I'd got with juvenile Black crowned as the white spotting on the upperparts are quite prominent. Juvenile Green backed juvenile would be heavily streaked below and eyes would be yellow, whereas your bird has red eyes - also a feature for juvenile Black crowned.

As for the legs, I reckon this is due to the colour of the mud that it has been feeding in / walking through and they're still coated with the mud.
