You may be right on pic 1. On Pic 2 I would say the oval nostril and heavy bill would rule out Whalbrgs and any of the spotted eagle? Lets e what others say. Deffinitely we can all agree neither of them are Steppe Eagle.

Cheers.
Doug

Oh yeah, I'm a Grey Heron! Sorry about that, I had a break down, where was I? Oh, yes, I'm begging you all to say that this is a Tawny Eagle if it can't be an African Hawk Eagle. I don't have a Tawny Eagle yet.

You could always tick it on statistical probability if you want?

I wouldn't want to cheat, between pipits, larks, water birds and brown eagles I don't know which is worse to id? At least we can relax with ostriches, there isn't any competition there, except for the blue smudge

Hey peeps.....
I might be way off the mark here,..... But couldn't the squashed smurf possibly be a purple gallinule?
Tho, even if it was, there is no possible way to make a possitive id anyway
oh well......

Hey Brendan

That's actually not a bad suggestion, and a Purple Swamphen/Gallinule is found in the Pilanesburg area. The pic was taken by the main restaurant near the bird hide in the interior of Pilanesburg. Could that qualify?[/color:zrx9ndux]
