Good morning all

Hope your Christmas was great, and here's to an even better New Year.

Yesterday evening, we had a huge swarm/flock/mob of bats flying around our house, having a good feast on hundreds of flying ants, and flying very quickly in amongst them were probably about 5 birds resembling small raptors. Unfortunately, the light was mostly gone, so we only saw silhouettes. The wings were sharply pointed, resembling Bat Hawk/ Falcons, and the tail was slightly wedged, but at certain angles looked rounded. The wingspan was about 40 - 50 cm, which pretty much rules out Bat Hawk, other than distribution. Looking through my raptor book, the one possibility that popped up was a Eurasian Hobby, but, again, the Hobby's wingspan is too long.

Does anyone have an idea of what they could be, or has someone seen something like this around the Sun City area??

I'd appreciate your views on this.

Happy New Year.

Stuart

Sounds like hobbies to me, possibly the more uncommon African.
